2009 NFL Draft Coverage

draft09The 2009 NFL Draft has come and gone and since I have only put up this blog after the fact. Oh well, better late than never. Besides, there’s still a lot of thing to cover for the draft anyway.

Are you a NFL Draft die-hard? Of course you are or you wouldn’t be reading this article right now. Think about it for a moment. The draft is almost a spectacle within itself, this gives football fans something to cheer about 3 months after the Super Bowl has come and gone, nothing but a distant memory to be shown on America’s Game on the NFL Network. You can say that any draft was already being built up from the year prior.

But it really starts to pick up steam like I said just right after the Super Bowl ends. Here we have the mock drafts, everywhere on the web. Speculation is the key here and that’s where all the fun and suspense lies. You know, the draft is such and in-exact science that you don’t quite really know what your going to get. A true blue chipper in the first round, maybe a late round steal. You just never know, you might even draft the savior of your franchise or one of the biggest busts of all time.

But that’s the beauty of the NFL Draft, it’s a gamble and you’re never quite sure what you’re going to get. I’ve been a draftnick since about 1982, following all the drafts and the pre-draft hype. Analysing all the information I could read and get my hands on. They didn’t use to televise the draft, but you could listen to it on the radio though. You can say that it has become even more and more popular through the years. A true sports spectacle it is and I’m glad we have it because it’s great for the game and great for the fans to have this in the off season. There’s word that for the next draft that it is going to be shown on prime time starting on a Friday night.

The 2009 Arizona Cardinals draft choices is what I will be covering in-depth here. They had some needs and holes to fill and they did a really good job again. Matter of fact I think they got an outright steal in the first round. Like I said, the draft carries a lot of suspense and you’re never quite sure what’s going to pan out. Did the Oakland Raiders really take Darrius Heyward-Bey with the seventh pick in the first round? No comment on that one.

My next in series on draft coverage will be analysis and breakdown of Cardinals draft choices.
